]]> By: Paul Weisel https://randylewis.org/marion-county-fairgrounds/#comment-179797 Wed, 26 Jul 2017 16:14:53 +0000 http://randylewis.org/?p=23122#comment-179797 At the USAC midget race at the Marion County, OH Fairgrounds on August 23, 1962, Clark ‘Shorty’ Templeman, the 1956, 1957, and 1958 USAC National Midget Champion, hooked the second turn cross-over gate on the dirt half mile with his right rear tire, deflecting his car into the middle of the feature event field. The ensuing multi-car crash resulted in fatal injuries to Templeman and up-and-coming sprint car specialist Jim Hemmings. Templeman was removed to a local hospital and died on 8-24-62, while Hemmings succumbed at the track. FYI………………………….Shorty Templeman’s son, Clark, Jr. was fatally injured during a CRA sprint car program at Ascot Park, Gardena, CA in 1982.
