Canada’s #1 Trackchaser!

 

This weekend, Saturday/Sunday, August 24/25, 2024 was a huge time for my trackchasing hobby.  I went trackchasing in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Canada. By the end of the weekend, I was officially the #1 Trackchaser in Canada!

 

 

On Saturday, I was here to see the 60th anniversary race at the River Glade Speedway, in River Glade, NB. This was a special event. The track closed about 15 years ago and this was the “River Glade Speedway – The Rebuild” special reunion race.

 

 

Visiting the River Glade Speedway marked the 210th track where I’ve seen racing in the 10 provinces of Canada. This moved me into a tie for the Canadian trackchasing lead.

 

 

On Sunday I made the five-hour drive down to Lake Douchette, Nova Scotia. Lake Douchette is home to the Lake Douchette Motor Speedway. What a classic little track in the most picturesque setting. It was the Lake Douchette track that would move me into first place in the lifetime Canadian trackchasing standings with 211 Canadian tracks.

 

 

This weekend’s trip from Southern California required 12 hours of flying into and out of Boston and 30 hours of driving all over New England and the Maritimes of Canada.

 

 

I’ve made nearly 150 trips across the border into Canada. Heck, I once saw a race in all ten Canadian provinces in one year. The border control agents ask me the same question each time I travel into Canada. “You came all the way from California just to see a race?” Of course, the answer to that question is always “Yes”. I love the Canadian people, poutine, and Tim Horton’s!

 

 

On August 25, 2024, I became Canada’s #1 Trackchaser. 211 Canadian tracks. Most of those tracks are more than 2,000 miles (3,218 kilometers) from where I live in Southern California. The closest Canadian track is probably still 2,150 kilometers from my driveway! I’m happy to have reached this milestone. 

 

 

Here’s my complete Canadian track list from my first visit in 1988 to now. It’s sorted by the date I saw racing at each track. If you’re from Canada I hope I’ve been to your favorite track.
