Greetings from Sioux Falls, South Dakota
From the travels and adventures of the “World’s #1 Trackchaser”
Huset’s Speedway
Lifetime track #143
The Huset’s Speedway is officially listed as my 143rd lifetime racetrack to see. Huset’s was the first track I ever saw in South Dakota. I was there on a Wednesday night, July 11, 1984 to see a World of Outlaws show. Any guesses on who won? Yep, you guessed it. Steve Kinser! During the 80s I followed the World of Outlaws all over the country as a racechaser . I had not discovered the hobby of trackchasing at that point. I simply went racing to see the best sprint car and stock drivers regardless of whether I had been to the track one time or fifty times.
I didn’t begin writing my famous Trackchaser Reports until about track #400. Therefore all I have to go on is my memory of the night’s activity. I also didn’t begin doing much in the way of photos or videos at that time either. It was “pre-technology”.
I have very little remembrance of Huset’s other than it was a very competitive little dirt track. My one recorded comment from the nights racing was “Tim Green crashes”. Tim was a hard charger who won some races and had some big crashes. I do drive past the Huset’s Speedway sign nearly every summer coming and going from point A to point B. Maybe I need to stop in and see what they’ve got going on. It has been 30 years since my last visit!
You might have remembrances about the Huset’s Speedway. If so, please feel free to share in the comments section below. If you have any photos from back in the day, send them to me at Ranlay@yahoo.com. I’ll try to include them here.
