MARYLAND
The Old Line State
From the travels and adventures of the “World’s #1 Trackchaser”
All-Time Favorite Maryland Track:
Hagerstown Speedway
Current lifetime trackchasing state rank: Worse than 10th!
Best Memories:
My favorite track in Maryland is the Hagerstown Speedway simply because they host big-time short track auto racing. Hagerstown is also a favorite for another reason. Only one woman in the history of trackchasing has ever gone to a track, purchased her ticket and watched the races…..all by herself. Who was that? The “World’s #3 Trackchaser”, the one and only “Trackchasing’s First Mother”, Carol Lewis.
The Frederick Fairgrounds provided another first for me. They required that their figure 8 drivers pass a breathalyzer test before they could race. I had never and have never seen that at any other track. The Grand Prix of Baltimore (above) was a terrible spectator event but then virtually all street course racing is. I haven’t seen racing at very many Maryland tracks because Maryland doesn’t have very many tracks.
