Greetings from Glasgow, Kentucky
From the travels and adventures of the “World’s #1 Trackchaser”
Barren County Speedway – Lifetime track #400
The Barren County Speedway is officially listed as my 400th lifetime racetrack to see. I did not begin writing my famous “Trackchaser Reports” until the middle of the year 2000. My first official Trackchaser Report was written for track #425, the State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Missouri. I saw that track with my brother Mark on May 28, 2000.
Therefore much of I can tell you (as limited as it is) is from memory. I do know that I visited this track on October 1, 1999. Steve Russell in car #33 won the feature event. With this race being on a Friday, I followed it up on Saturday and Sunday with two more Kentucky racing venues. Saturday brought me to the Richmond Raceway in Richmond, Kentucky. Joe Burns, #3, was the feature winner. Then on Sunday I visited Thunder Ridge, in Prestonburg, Kentucky. This was a big late model show with #99 Donnie Moran coming out on top.
After each race I visit I add the track information to a massive Excel spreadsheet. I always include a short one or two line comment about the track. What did I have to say about the Barren County Speedway? “Absolutely terrible management”. One of the very best things about the hobby of trackchasing is that when you see a show that’s not worth returning too…..you don’t and I didn’t.
Some time after my visit the track was renamed “McCoy Motors Speedway”. All of my current efforts to find much more information about this track have failed. However, I do have directions to the racetrack: I-65 Exit 36. East on US 68/SR80 approx 15 miles (3 miles west of Glasgow). Located on Speedway Road. YouTube video searches show this as a high-banked dimly lit little dirt bullring.
You might have remembrances about this track. If so, please feel free to share in the comments section below. If you have any photos from back in the day, send them to me at Ranlay@yahoo.com. I’ll try to include them here.

Track is gone. There’s a re-cycling company there now. If you look down on it using Googlemaps and you know what to look for, you can still see little bit of where the track was. Loved going there when I was a kid to watch my uncle Dave Logsdon race.
Hey David, There are a lot of tracks that went away just like this one. Nevertheless, it’s good to have our memories of what the place was like in better times. Randy
