I wanted to get to Coos Bay for the longest time. When I did they ran 25-lap features for 4-5 car fields. Oregon has some really good caged kart racing at places like Cottage Grove, Salem, Medford and Roseburg.

Fun SXS racing at the Eugene Territorial Motocross Park MX in Junction City on a 28-degree day. Our friends Wes and Jill Moody joined us for their first ever trackchasing effort at the Forster Livestock Pavilion. The Hermiston Super Oval was a rustic track with grass growing up through the asphalt race surface. Saw a really well-run show with great modified racing at the Madras Speedway. On the other hand, I experienced a really boring CART race at the Portland International Raceway.

A 34-degree day in a roofed building without walls for kart racing at the Red and Eleanore Isola Memorial Arena took up one of my trackchasing days. At the River Arena in Roseburg fans used portable propane heaters to keep warm. Saw the first-ever figure 8 race at the Oregon state fair at a track named the Salem Indoor Stadium at the Pavilion. We watched the races on a 100-degree night with fellow trackchasing competitors Alan and Nancy Brown at the Southern Oregon Speedway. I only learned of the Willamette Speedway Kart Track’s existence the day before I came to watch the racing.
