The Colorado Motorsports Park (above) in Peoria raced at a former dog track with indoor seating. I saw racing at the Colorado National Speedway in 1988, which was their last year to race on dirt. The Colorado National Speedway is now an asphalt racetrack and one of the class facilities in the entire country. Their figure 8 class looks like a quality class of late models.

The Fairgrounds Speedway in Cortez sits in the shadow of snow-covered mountains. I got to take a lap in the pace truck around the new High Plains Raceway (above) in Deer Trail. At the I-25 Speedway, the promoter wanted to know why I was taking pictures from all over his property. I referred him to www.randylewis.org.

They ran an efficient program at the high-banked dirt oval track at the I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan. At the La Junta Raceway, the chief inspector was hurt delaying the program. The Lamar Speedway (above) closed their regular season program on July 7. That seemed awfully early.

From the roof, I could see the entire road course at the Pikes Peak International Raceway. I saw the last ever oval race at the Pikes Peak International Raceway, which closed in 2005. The Philips County Raceway had too many infield and grandstand obstructions. The place was made for rodeo.

I ended up needing a battery jump at the Prowers County Motorsports Park in Lamar. The Pueblo Motorsports Park (above) in Pueblo was a country road course with an abandoned oval track. There was a major T-bone crash in the F8 race at the Rocky Mountains Raceway on the last lap. The San Luis Valley Motorplex in Mosca has the highest elevation of any oval track at 7,559 feet. That’s not much compared to the race I saw at the Autodromo de Pucarani in Pucarani, Bolivia. They race at more than 14,000 feet. The Valley Dirt Riders track in Berthoud was a great strategic find.
